At the time, Bon Jovi, Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Wilson and Andrea Bocelli, among others, were to perform in various New York City venues throughout 2008 as part of
the inaugural "Stand Up For A Cure" concert series, designed to raise funds and awareness for lung cancer research at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.In the week
leading up to their U.S. leg of its Lost Highway world tour, Bon Jovi went on to launch the series with a sold-out concert on Feb. 12 at the 3,500-capacity Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.
The intimate show was dedicated to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora's father, Adam Sambora, who had received care at Memorial Sloan-Kettering the year prior before passing from cancer.
"Cancer is relentless; you can't stop it," Sambora told Billboard at the time. "Hopefully this money will help find answers."

Richie Sambora opened the night with an acoustic set where he was also accompanied by Lorenzca Ponce (touring with Bon Jovi at the time) whose violin playing
complemented the sound of his songs very much. At the end, he launched into a full-blown electric rendition of Stranger In This Town.

Bon Jovi joined their guitar player on stage and opened with "With A Little Help From My Friends"! It's the first documented band performance since 1996 and the
first one overall since Jon joined Richie on his solo tour in 1998! During the verses, Jon and Richie traded lead vocals and Jon even tried the high note in the middle. Even though he fluffed
that one a bit, he managed to get back into it and pull off some impressive high notes, making it a surprisingly decent performance!
