Trivia

  • One of the if not the most appreciated Bon Jovi release among die-hard fans. It is a compilation of 4 CDs and 1 DVD to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary as well as reaching the milestone of 100 million albums sold. The 4 CDs of the Box Set consist of 38 unreleased tracks and 12 already known B-sides. The DVD has a mix of old behind the scenes video footage and interviews with the band about this Box Set.

  • The title and cover is a homage to Elvis Presley's 1959 release 50.000.000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong. Just like Elvis, the band posed in golden suits. Back in 2004 most fans weren't too happy about that since they found it to be a cheap copy, an arrogant move and in some extent even disrespectful by trying to be suggestive of having sold more records than Elvis.

  • The Japanese release had a 5th bonus disc with songs that the other markets already got as B-Sides on the single releases. The songs on that disc are: With A Little Help From my Friends (live, 1995), Love Is War (1988), Borderline (1986), Hush (1997), I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas (1992), Save A Prayer (1992), Fields Of Fire (1992), Another Reason To Believe (2002), Let's Make It Baby (1988), The End (1994)

  • Although a lot of demos had leaked throughout the years, the band was able to surprise their fan base with most of the songs having never been heard of before.

  • According to the band, all 4 CDs were put together with the thought of each of them standing as an album itself. So there is no chronological order or some kind of that.

  • The dates of the songs were later on made public on the official Bon Jovi homepage. But with the band and their organisation never being good in labeling their archives correctly, all those dates had to be taken with a pinch of salt.

  • The oldest demo is from 1985, We Rule The Night, which was most probably written for 7800° Fahrenheit. There is only one demo from Slippery When Wet and no demos from New Jersey. Obie once stated in the Q&A section on the old Bon Jovi website, that the die-hards already had all the leaked demos so that he wanted to give them "new" material. So in fact, most of the "new" songs are demos from 1998/1999 what was planned to be Sex Sells and became Crush as well as from the Keep The Faith/These Days era.

  • Since the album what later on became Crush started as another Jon solo record, on some of the demos on the Box Set it is not Bon Jovi playing but Jon with his solo band The Big Dogs.

  • Some of the Box Set songs were reworked in the studio with some of them even having been recorded some additional parts/instruments for. It isn't known which songs exactly got some new recorded parts added but there is video footage of Jon and Bobby doing some acoustic guitar parts for I Get A Rush.

  • This is the first and only studio release on which Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres each sing a song on their own.

  • Open All Night is a completely different song than the one released on Bounce in 2002. This one here is the demo of a song written in 1994, which even was meant to be the title track of what was to become the These Days album. In the early stage of writing the album, the working title was Open All Night. Both, album title and song were dropped though.

  • Another song shows how "obsessed" Jon must have been with the title Open All Night, since there is another track called "These Arms Are Open All Night" , making it 3 tracks in the Bon Jovi catalogue circling around that motif.

  • Thief Of Hearts and Last Man Standing are both songs written for their acoustic compilation This Left Feels Right that got released the year before the Box Set but were dropped from being released on it. A re-arranged hardrock version of Last man Standing was released the following year on their then next studio album Have A Nice Day.

  • Starting All Over Again was a bonus track on the international Keep The Faith album. However, the Box Set version is a different take, possibly having been done years later due to Jon straining way harder to reach the notes than on the earlier version. On the bonus DVD, Jon and Richie joked about the track having been omitted because, in Jon's words: "I'd sing it twice on tour and then we'd go home again", implicating that it was way too hard on his vocals.

  • The Fire Inside is according to Obie's list from 1994. On the Box Set DVD Jon says it was recorded for Keep The Faith. Since the chord progression is the same like on Someday I'll Be Saturday Night, I'd rather go with it being from 1993/1994.

  • You Can Sleep While I Dream is another one of those songs where the stated date (1999) is in doubt. Once again the chord progression and the used fillers (hey hey) is very similiar to what they wrote around 1994. Yet the co-writers Mark Hudson and Dean Grakal didn't join Jon before his second solo record in 1997. So it might be possible that this is a song Jon started in the early 90s and picked it up for Sex Sells/Crush once again.

  • Outlaws Of Love is said to be from the Keep The Faith sessions. While Jon's vocals fit into that time frame, the arrangement rather sounds like something they would have done during the New Jersey era. So fans suspect that this is another one of those "in-between" songs, that was started earlier and was finished during the Keep The Faith sessions.

  • And we go on with that kind of songs. Ordinary People and Temptation both are songs originally written in 1994/1995 and reworked later on. The versions released on that Box Set are from the sessions for Crush.

  • If I Can't Have Your Love is an outtake from Richie's recording sessions for his first solo album Stranger In This Town.

  • Real Life was a movie soundtrack for Ed TV. The Box Set version is a different mix in comparison to the in 1999 released single version.

  • Memphis Lives In Me is the title track from the musical Memphis, which David Bryan co-wrote.

  • Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word has two versions on the Box Set. One rough demo and a reworked studio demo. Together with the demos of the hit singles Someday I'll Be Saturday Night and Always, the band wanted to give some insight into the process of writing, recording and reworking a song.

  • Jon wrote Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word after he toured with Southside Jonny. He stated that at the end of the day this song was too much R 'n B for a Bon Jovi record.

Live

  • To celebrate the release of the Box Set, Bon Jovi played a on-off show on November 21, 2004. Just like the year before with This Left Feels Right, this show took place at the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This was the setlist:

01. Why Aren't You Dead?
02. You Give Love A Bad Name
03. The Radio Saved My Life Tonight
04. Born To Be My Baby
05. Open All Night
06. Everyday
07. Miss Fourth Of July
08. It's My Life
09. I'll Be There For You (Richie Sambora on vocals)
10. Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word
11. Wanted Dead Or Alive
12. Only In My Dreams
13. I Get A Rush
14. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
15. Bad Medicine w/ Shout

Encore:
16. These Arms Are Open All Night
17. Garageland
18. Livin' On A Prayer

  • Obviously, the Box Set songs which got played, made their live-premiere in that show.

  • In contrary, Thief Of Hearts and Last Man Standing made their live debut a year before. Since they were written for This Left Feels Right but were dropped from release at last second, the band still opted to play them live during their 2 shows in November 2003 to celebrate the album's release. After a rocking version of Last Man Standing got released on Have A Nice Day in 2005, only that new version was played live afterwards. The Box Set version never got played live again, neither was Thief Of Hearts.

  • Because Tico sang the lead vocals on Only In My dreams, Jon took over the drums for that song.

  • Why Aren't You Dead, Open All Night, Love Ain't Nothing But A Four Letter Word, Only In My Dreams and These Arms Are Open All Night never got played again.

  • The chorus from The Radio Saved My Life Tonight is sung an octave lower since the album version is too high for Jon's vocals nowadays. The song became a staple on the setlist during the Have A Nice Day tour and got played on a regular base on the Lost Highway tour as well. The following tours it was added to the set here and there.

  • The Edge Of A Broken Heart was a huge fan favourite ever since it got released as a B-Side in 1986 and year after year the fans asked the band to play that song live. After it was added to the Box Set and with Jon saying on the Box Set DVD, that this song should have made Slippery When Wet and that he is aware that the fans want to hear it live very badly, expectations were high that they play it during that show. But as it turned out, the expectations weren't met by the band once again. The song has never been played live ever.

  • A week before that show, the band performed during the American Music Awards and played a snippet of the next album's title track Have A Nice Day for the very first time. The song was on the setlist for this show as well but for some reasons was dropped.
